The quintessential Bengali Rohu fish curry is a delicious and simple recipe that will simply leave you craving for more.
- Rohu Fish (Rui Maach)
- Cauliflower (fulkopi)
- Green chillies
- Onions (Chopped))
- Tomatoes (Chopped)
- Ginger Paste
- Garlic Paste
- Panch Phoron (Five spice mix)
- Turmeric Powder
- Red Chilli Powder
- Cumin Powder
- Mustard Oil
- Garam Masala Powder
Cut the cauliflower, potatoes, onions, tomatoes and the green chillies.
In a pan heat 2 table spoon of mustard oil and lightly fry the cauliflower and potatoes and keep aside.
Mix the rohu fish with salt and turmeric powder and keep for some time. Then in the same oil fry the Rohu fish pieces after and keep them aside.
Add one tablespoon of mustard oil again in the pan and add the panch phoron into it along with the ginger and garlic paste. Once it starts to splutter add the chopped onions and the green chillies to it. Cover with a lid and let it cook for 5 mins. After opening the lid add all the dry spices like salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and cumin powder and give it a nice stir.
Once oil starts separating out from the onions, throw in the chopped tomatoes and give it nice stir. Cover the lid to cook it for some time.
After the onions and tomatoes are thoroughly cooked, add in the fried potatoes and cauliflowers and mix it well. Add one cup of water and half a tea spoon of sugar into it.
Now add the fried fish pieces into it and let it cook for 10 minutes. Open the lid and add half a spoon of garam masala powder.
Turn of the flame and your Rohu fish curry is ready to be served. Garnish it with some coriander leaves.
