Masoor Dal

Masoor dal is a sparsely spiced dish that doesn’t overpower other dishes in a course and thus can be taken along with any regular meal.


  • Masoor dal
  • Dry red chillies
  • Panch phoron  (five spice)
  • Onions spiced
  • Salt
  • Turmeric powder
  • Coriander leaves
  • Mustard oil


Wash the masoor dal under water and cook it in boiling water. Add salt and 1/4 th spoon of turmeric powder. Keep it aside.


In a pan take a tablespoon of mustard oil and fry the five spices, dry red chillies and onions until lightly browned.

Pour in the boiled masoor dal in the pan and cook for 15mins. If you find it too dry add some water to it.

Garnish with coriander leaves and your masoor dal is ready to be served with rice or roti.
